Hearing FAQs

Bilateral hearing loss refers to a loss of hearing in both ears. Many people who are hearing impaired have a bilateral loss. It’s important to wear hearing aids for this type of hearing loss to ensure both ears are receiving the proper sound signals to hear and understand speech.

Hearing loss is considered a disability if the person scores 60 percent or less on a word recognition test. This would be considered a moderate hearing loss. Hearing loss can affect your communication skills, relationships, and work performance. It’s important to manage hearing loss with hearing aids and to be vocal about any kind of support you need, both at home and in the work place.

Pressure in the ears can be something as simple as impacted earwax. When earwax builds up inside the ear canal, it can become impacted and cause feelings of pressure, discomfort, and even temporary hearing loss. If your ears feel full, please contact us for an ear exam.

Yes, at our hearing aid center we carry small invisible hearing aids. Lyric creates invisible hearing aids that are inserted into the ear canal, so no one will even notice you are wearing them! If you are interested in discreet hearing aids, please contact us.

No. In fact, hearing aids help alleviate the symptoms of tinnitus. Many people report their tinnitus being worse at night time, when their environment is quiet. If you have hearing loss and tinnitus, then you may experience ringing in the ears more frequently because of how quiet the world is around you. Hearing aids will provide amplification that can distract the brain from tinnitus. Living with tinnitus doesn’t have to be difficult. We offer tinnitus treatments including hearing aids with a masking feature to help you experience relief from ringing in the ears.

Like any medical device, hearing aids require regular maintenance. We will walk you through how to clean your devices and how to change the hearing aid batteries. You will also want to keep them away from humidity and moisture, so don’t wear them swimming or in the shower.
